Sals Star of the Week: Gratitude (introduced by Michael Foth)

‘It takes a long time to grow an old friend.’ (John Leonard)

Consider what you accomplished, how you achieved it, and the journey that led you to where you are today.  Could you have done it alone?  Who was beside you front seat center providing encouragement and who was your well-tuned sounding board reflecting ideas?  As Bill Withers sang: ‘We all need somebody to lean on.’  It takes someone special to accept long hours, accommodate demanding work schedules, late evening emails, and incoherent de-briefs from the past day.  Let’s all be honest, we can’t do this alone.

My Sal’s Star is Gratitude

‘Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.’ (Cicero).

What is the power of gratitude?  It gives us a sense of belonging, this appreciation solidifies relationships, and there is evidence that provides one with happiness as a whole.  Why show gratitude?  ‘I was complaining that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.’ (Confucius).  We are in a pandemic, life has changed, we have lost loved ones, others have lost their jobs.  Our social networks have changed, there are fewer visits from family, and emotions can be challenged.  This is a friendly reminder to keep your friends close, appreciate your colleagues, thank the ones who support you emotionally, and to those that make everything just a little bit easier.

I ask – who is your personal Sal’s Star?

And again…… ‘It takes a long time to grow an old friend.’ (John Leonard)

Congratulations!!!
