Sals Stars of the Week: Thang Nguyen (introduced by Colette Seifer)

This week’s star from Cardiology is Thang Nguyen. He has been a member of the Cardiac Sciences Program and the Section of Cardiology, University of Manitoba, since 2012. His subspecialty interest is in Cardiac Rehab and he holds several leadership roles including at the Reh-Fit Centre and Wellness Institute, Lipid Clinic, Cardiac Clinics at SBH, as well as Associate Medical Director for Cardiology. He also provides support and leadership to the Physician/Clinical Assistants. He is an objective, critical thinker whose thoughtful deliberations and detailed approach to problem solving are much valued.

This week’s award, in particular, relates to his leadership in the Rapid Access Cardiology Clinic (RACC). This 2019 initiative has seen over 500 lower risk cardiology patients discharged by SBH ED physicians to be seen in clinic by Cardiac Sciences Nurse Practitioners. Prior to this Clinic, many of these patients would have waited in the ED for their Cardiology Consult. Thang has provided education and guidance to the NP’s and has been an invaluable resource for this service.

Milestones: Marg Cote

Margaret Cote, Cardiac Clerk in the Echo department, will be retiring after 37 years of service. Marg has been a mainstay in the Echo department, never failing to help anyone who asks. She has gathered many happy memories and developed wonderful friendships. She is now looking forward to relaxing and spending more time with her family and friends. We will miss you Marg.
