Manitoba still ranked number one for cardiac care short term outcomes. We were reminded by CIHI this week, just how well we look after cardiac patients in Manitoba. After an internal data investigation, CIHI found that St. Boniface General Hospital’s/Manitoba’s statistical significance value for 30-Day In-Hospital Mortality After Isolated CABG changed from Not significantly different to Significantly lower than the Canadian average for 2016–2017 to 2018–2019 (based on 3 years of pooled data). As I’ve said before, the credit for these outstanding outcomes results from the outstanding efforts of the whole cardiac sciences community– supporting our patients through every step of their journey!
Sals Stars of the Week: Sara Unrau (introduced by Sarah Gilchrist)
Sara is being recognized for her advocacy and continuous quest for process improvement. Big or small, Sara has her finger on the pulse of her unit and shows up every day for her staff and patients. Sara has been instrumental in holding together the PARR ICU unit, as it morphs and expands. You will find Sara at the desk troubleshooting patient flow, supporting nurses at the bedside or admitting a patient herself. Sara uses her practical approach to bring forward changes – she has worked through many staffing processes with SSO and her team to not only improve staff morale but to make further steps to address safe staffing for Critical Care Units. She has many other great ideas that we have talked through and when the era of COVID is over and a minute is to spare she will continue to make her mark on ICCS and Critical Care.
