CSP in the News

CSP to take leadership and operational roles as province-wide noninvasive cardiac testing moves to Shared Health.

At the week’s end we began the implementation of important changes to our provincial health system with respect to the realignment and consolidation of diagnostic services. Most notably, we began the process to transition the large majority of diagnostic imaging staff currently residing within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Brandon Regional Health Centre. They will become part of the Shared Health team in April 2019.

In consultation with the Cardiac Sciences Program leadership the decision has been made that all WRHA Non-Invasive Cardiac Diagnostics staff (Echo, EKG, Holter and Stress Testing), including those provided at St Boniface Hospital, along with Kelly Lewington, Cardiac Sciences Program Team Manager for NICD at St Boniface Hospital, will transition to Shared Health in April 2019. During this transition period, the current reporting structures, roles and responsibilities and services delivered will remain unchanged. What is currently known as NICD (non-invasive Cardiac Diagnostics) will now be known as NICT (non-invasive Cardiac Testing) and all services will be provided by Shared Health.

I will be taking on the role of Medical Director and Reid Love will provide operational leadership for NICT in Shared Health. A PDSC project team has been created and is working in close partnership with each site’s administration to ensure a fully integrated and seamless transition to Shared Health occurs. Further information about the transition to Shared Health will be provided in the very near future. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to speak with Kelly Lewington. Alternatively you can email info@sharedhealthmb.ca and a member of the PDSC team will respond to you directly.

Wear Red Event: save the date.

I hope we can all get behind the Women’s Heart Health initiative, in which CSP members Lorraine Avery and Olga Toleyva have taken important national and local leadership roles. Please consider participating in at least one of the events scheduled for Wear Red Canada Day in Winnipeg on February 13. Shoutouts

A very big shoutout to Eric Jacobsohn and his team who this week received news that their CIHR grant application on which he is the co-PI will be funded ($459K!). The application to study the effect of benzodiazepine-free cardiac anaesthesia for reduction of postop delirium was ranked #1 in the committee!!
