Pacemaker and Defibrillator Clinic

Description

The Pacemaker/Defibrillator Clinic is a specialized outpatient clinic located on the 2nd floor of St. Boniface Hospital (Y-Block) focused on following patients with implanted rhythm-management devices. These devices include Pacemakers to prevent slow heart rates; Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators to treat rapid life-threatening rhythm disturbances; Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) devices; and Implantable Loop Recorders (ILRs). The clinic is staffed by doctors and nurses who specialize in the treatment and care of patients who have an implantable rhythm device.

What to Expect

Once a device is implanted, the clinic staff will determine the frequency and mode of your follow-up schedule. At each clinic visit you will see a nurse, or a nurse and a doctor either in-person or via a remote connection. The nurse will interrogate your device to obtain information on how it is functioning. This information will be reviewed, and any necessary changes will be made. The clinic staff will be available to answer any questions you or your family might have about your device or how it is functioning.

Patient Instructions

Clinic visits are by appointment. If you are not feeling well or have other issues, you must call the clinic in order to be seen.
