Inherited Cardiomyopathy Clinic (ICC)
The Inherited Cardiomyopathy Clinic is a special heart clinic run together by heart doctors (cardiologists) and genetics specialists. It is for people who have, or may develop, an inherited (familial) heart muscle disease.
Patients may be seen by a cardiologist, a genetic counsellor, or both, usually on the same day. The team reviews personal and family history to understand the pattern of heart disease in the family.
Tests may include:
- An echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) to look at heart size, shape, and how well it pumps.
- A cardiac MRI to get detailed pictures of the heart muscle and any scarring.
- Genetic testing to look for changes in genes that can cause inherited heart muscle problems and to help guide screening of family members.
There is no long-term follow-up here; after the visit, test results and recommendations are sent back to your regular heart doctor or family doctor, who will provide your ongoing care.
