ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sal’s Stars of the Week: Jacqueline Tolentino

(Introduced by Sara Unrau)

I’d like to recognize Jacqueline Tolentino as Sals Star of the Week. Jacqueline is one of our CRNs in ICCS, who works mostly nights. She is essential to our team in keeping the unit organized and running smoothly. She is detail-oriented and keeps our night attendings up to date with patient changes. She is an expert in managing our cardiac surgery patients overnight. A recent example of this, is when she was a part of managing cardiac advanced life support (CALS) on a bleeding patient. She coached and supported her team and the physician through CALS, including coaching the steps for opening the patients sternal incision. Dr. Funk expressed his appreciation for her calm demeanor and keeping the team focused in this situation and making sure all the key team members were notified, including the cardiac surgeon. A key team member, please join me in congratulating Jacqueline Tolentino as Sals Star of the Week.

Christina Kuttnig
ACCU, St. Boniface Hospital

Chris is a wonderful mentor, manager, friend and organizer. She is supportive everyday to her staff, colleagues and all those she comes into contact with. She is fair, honest, reliable, knowledgeable, smart, kind, fun and approachable. She inspires others to do their best work by being an active listener. She is compassionate, caring and will always lend a hand in any way she can. Chris goes above and beyond as a manager by being available for staff, working extra hours and supporting other new managers. She gives to the community of cardiac sciences by leading the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses both provincially and as president elect of the board of directors for Canada.

From my own experience she has encouraged me to grow as an educator, supported me to become a manager and is always available to answer questions or just to listen. Please help me to honor Chris as Chris is a woman we should celebrate!!!
