Sal’s Stars of the Week: Kelly Franczyk

Kelly has been mainly working on 6A Cardiology as a bed side nurse and occasionally as a charge nurse. Kelly has been very organized in her role as a RN and RP on the shift. She is professional with patients and is able to redirect patients that have tendency to wander on the unit. Kelly is very engaged in patient care and unit safety.
Recently we have readmitted one of 6A patients that were recently discharged. Very quickly the team has recognized that the patient had a brain bleed. As the team was trying to organize the transport and escalate to get the patient to HSC as soon as possible. The barrier was that the transport team needed RT for transport and one was not available. Kelly and 6A team came with a plan that she will go with the patient in ambulance to safely transport the patient so they can get needed care. After the transporting the patient Kelly came back and resumed with her nursing duties.

After receiving more than 30 entries in the SBH Ideas Competition, the judging process has been completed and we can now declare the winners! First place goes to Pharmacy Manager Carol Davis on her submission on how to prevent medications from getting lost, and improving the distribution of medication within the hospital. Second place went to Anita Maric, Lorraine Avery, and Craig Hillier from Cardiac Sciences for their joint submission on a Staff Relaxation Centre to promote health and wellness and reduce stress on the job. Third place went to Saxon Duncan a nurse in NICU for her idea for an onsite daycare to help retain staff.
The SBH executive and SBH Medical Advisory Committee, who jointly ran the competition are committed to exploring the feasibility of all the ideas received. Winning ideas may or may not be implemented, once the feasibility is assessed, while those ideas that were not awarded first, second or third prize will still be considered for implementation. We thank everyone who submitted such fantastic and innovative ideas. Congratulations to all the winners and way to go Cardiac Sciences!
