Sal’s Star of the Week:  Imei Woo

(Introduced by Dalibor Gavranovic)

Imei Woo

5A Cardiology is an extremely busy unit with high patient turnaround, frequent off-unit diagnostic tests and procedures and at times a shortage of staff of all classifications making it difficult to manage. COVID isolations have made it even more difficult for families to come in and visit their loved ones.

The unit clerks are an integral part of day-to-day operations. They have a central role in communicating and supporting staff, patients and families. The unit clerks are often the first person answering the phone and relaying the difficult messages to the screeners and family visitors that they are not able to come in and see their loved ones. Imei has been very supportive in answering these difficult calls. The families are often frustrated and are trying to reason and explain why they need to come in.

Imei provides families with relevant and current processes and if needed she would respectfully ask for support whether it is from the CRN or manager. Her calmness and clear messaging puts families at ease and at times deescalates conflict.

Imei is very organized and prompt in updating patient information in the EPR, Oculys and white board. She is on top of the clerical workload and even when she is alone on the shift, she is able to positively communicate and manage the workload. She is well aware of potential admissions, transfers and discharges and helps the team with flow by anticipating these movements & prepares charts and updates the unit white board with changes.  During the months of December and January I had the pleasure of managing the desk for a few hours. Let me tell you I don’t know how we would cope if we did not have employees like Imei.

Imei is always absorbing new information, asking appropriate questions, and providing solutions. Imei is ready to take challenges in a positive manner and assist her coworkers.

Please join me in congratulating Imei on being the Sal’s Star of the Week.
